Where these rates come from

Streaming services don't pay a fixed amount per stream. They share their revenue by each song's share of all streams, so the rate moves with your listeners' countries and how many of them pay for a subscription. The ranges above are what services typically pay rights holders, before your distributor or label takes its share.

Industry estimates: Duetti per-1,000-stream data (January 2025), Royalty Exchange (2025) and 2026 payout comparisons. Services do not publish fixed rates. Updated October 2026.

TikTok: Symphonic distribution guidance ($0.03 per video, 2019). Newer TikTok deals pay on video views, so treat this as a rough guide.

Frequently asked questions

  • Spotify pays rights holders roughly $0.003 to $0.005 per stream. Spotify has no fixed rate: it shares a pool of revenue by each track's share of streams, so the rate changes with the listener's country and whether they pay for Premium.
  • About $3,000 to $5,000 in total royalties. That money is then split between whoever owns the recording (you, your label or distributor) and the songwriters, so an artist usually takes home less.
  • Per stream, Tidal and Apple Music usually pay the most and YouTube Music and Spotify the least. Spotify still pays most artists the most in total, because it has far more listeners.
  • Yes. Since 2024, a track needs at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months before Spotify pays royalties on it.
  • Yes, through your distributor. The most quoted figure is about $0.03 per video that uses your song. Newer deals pay based on how many views those videos get, so check your distributor's statement for your actual rate.
  • These are typical industry rates, not what any one service paid you. Your listeners' countries, free versus paid listeners, and your distributor or label deal all change the final amount.
